GST tax invoices

If your shop is registered under GST, LocalShopWala can print tax invoices on your bills — with your GSTIN, GST % on products, and CGST + SGST breakup (same state sale).

This guide uses simple steps for Indian shopkeepers.

Do I need this?

Turn on GST tax invoices only if:

  • You have a valid 15-character GSTIN, and
  • You want bills to show tax details for your records or customers, and
  • Your plan includes GST tax invoices (Pro).

If you only need a normal receipt without tax breakup, use Simple bills. No GST setup needed.

Before you start

You need:

  1. GSTIN saved in Settings → Store profile
  2. Pro plan (GST tax invoices feature)
  3. Products added in Inventory
  4. A few minutes to set GST rate mode in Configuration

Step 1 — Add your GSTIN

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Open Store profile.
  3. Find GST number.
  4. Enter your 15-character GSTIN (example: 22AAAAA0000A1Z5).
  5. Save.

Step 2 — Turn on GST tax invoices

  1. Open Settings → Configuration.
  2. Open the Invoice & receipts section.
  3. Turn on GST tax invoices.
  4. Choose how GST applies (see below).
  5. Tap Save invoice.

If you see “Add your GSTIN under Store settings first”, go back to Step 1.

If you see “GST tax invoices are available on Pro”, upgrade your plan first.

How GST is applied (choose one)

Under How GST is applied, pick the option that matches your shop:

Same rate for all products

  • Best when most items use one GST rate (for example 5% or 18%).
  • Set Default GST rate here (0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%).
  • You can still set a different GST % on individual products in Inventory.

Example: Shop default is 5%. Rice and dal use 5%. You set cooking oil to 18% in Inventory — oil bills at 18%, others at 5%.

Different rate on each product

  • Best when products have mixed GST rates (grocery + packaged goods + exempt items).
  • No shop-wide default rate.
  • Set GST % on each product in Inventory.
  • If GST % is not set on a product, that line is treated as 0% (no GST).

Example: Atta 0%, biscuits 18%, soap 18% — each product carries its own rate.

Price already includes GST

Keep Price already includes GST on if your shelf price already has tax inside (most retail shops).

Turn it off only if you sell at price before tax and want tax added on top of the line total.

Step 3 — Set GST % on products (when needed)

  1. Open Inventory.
  2. Add or edit a product.
  3. In Price & stock step, find GST %.
  4. Choose the correct rate or 0% (no GST).
  5. Save.

In Same rate for all products mode, products can use “Shop default” or their own rate.

In Different rate on each product mode, set GST on every taxable product.

You can also show a GST % column in the inventory list (Columns menu) when GST is on.

Step 4 — Make a GST bill

  1. Open Billing.
  2. Add products to the bill.
  3. Each line shows GST X% when GST billing is active (quantity is shown in the + / − control).
  4. Open Checkout.
  5. Check the bill preview:
    • Title may show Tax Invoice
    • Your GSTIN appears on the bill
    • Summary shows Taxable value and tax rows
  6. Choose payment and complete the sale.

What shows on the bill summary

When at least one product has GST above 0%:

One GST rate on the whole bill

  • Taxable value
  • CGST (half of total GST)
  • SGST (half of total GST)

Mixed GST rates on one bill (for example 5% + 18%)

  • Taxable value
  • Total GST (combined tax amount)

When GST mode is on but every line is 0%, the bill may show GST as applicable / included in price instead of a full breakup.

Invoice format — thermal or A4

In Configuration → Invoice & receipts:

FormatBest for
Thermal receiptSmall counter printer, quick print
A4 PDFFull tax invoice on paper, PDF share, signature

For A4 you can also set:

  • Authorised signature (image on PDF)
  • Invoice terms
  • Return policy
  • Receipt footer note

On desktop, when format is A4, use Preview PDF at checkout for a large preview before completing the sale.

Online shop and customer orders

When GST is on, online orders can also show GST summary on cart and checkout (based on product GST % and shop settings).

Customer order bills use the same Invoice format setting.

  • You can reprint or share from Billing History later.
  • Stock updates as usual.

Having trouble?

GST toggle is off or grey

  • Add GSTIN in Store profile first.
  • Check Pro plan for GST tax invoices.

GST % not saving on a product

  • Save the product again after choosing GST %.
  • In Different rate on each product mode, set rate on each product — there is no shop default.

Bill shows “GST as applicable” but no CGST/SGST

  • Check that products have GST % above 0%.
  • Remove old items from cart and add again after updating inventory.

Wrong GST on bill

  • Check How GST is applied in Configuration.
  • Check product GST % in Inventory.
  • Check Price already includes GST matches how you price items.
